Phnom Penh, July 15, 2025 — Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, H.E. Hem Vanndy, received a delegation from Huawei to discuss deepening cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) research and development, as well as nurturing Cambodia’s future tech workforce.
During the meeting, the Huawei team showcased a range of AI applications already transforming industries in China — from quality inspection in automotive production lines to cost and time optimization in logistics companies.
The delegation also shared how companies like Anta in the sportswear sector are utilizing AI to offer customized products and highlighted the success story of Quizhou Province, once underdeveloped but now revitalized through strategic investments in data centers and digital infrastructure.
Huawei expressed a strong commitment to supporting Cambodia’s transition toward a digital and innovation-driven economy, proposing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MISTI focused on establishing an AI R&D platform and advancing tech talent development.
Minister Vanndy welcomed the initiative, noting that the Royal Government of Cambodia has established a National R&D Committee and is working toward creating a National Research Foundation to foster cross-sector innovation for socio-economic development.
“MISTI welcomes Huawei’s proposed collaboration in advancing AI R&D,” Minister Vanndy said. “We also need more tech talents, especially in AI. I hope Huawei can bring in the necessary expertise and curriculum and collaborate with Cambodia’s educational institutions to develop these talents, as they will become key future assets for tech investors like Huawei.”
