Kampong Thom’s Street Food Vendors Join Initiative to Improve Hygiene Standards

 

Kampong Thom Province, November 3, 2025 — A total of 100 street food vendors in Stung Sen City, Kampong Thom Province, have been selected to participate in a project aimed at improving street food hygiene standards. The vendors have received training as well as essential hygiene supplies.

The handover ceremony, training session, and project dissemination were presided over by H.E. Mat Sary, Undersecretary of State and Head of the Secretariat of the Coordinating Committee for Developing the Informal Economy, and H.E. Nuon Pharath, Governor of Kampong Thom, together with representatives from provincial departments, district administrations, and the 100 participating street food vendors.

This pilot initiative is jointly implemented by the Secretariat of the Coordinating Committee for Developing the Informal Economy and the Kampong Thom Provincial Administration. It aims to deliver practical benefits to informal economy workers, particularly street vendors operating in Kampong Thom Province.

The project focuses on enhancing the orderliness, aesthetics, safety, and hygiene of street food operations in line with national guidelines, while supporting business development and income generation. It also seeks to attract more tourists and promote Kampong Thom as a safe and enjoyable stopover destination known for clean and hygienic street food.

The hygiene supplies provided include chef hats, aprons, face masks, gloves, 28-liter ice buckets, water buckets, towels, soap, dishwashing sponges, tongs, chopping boards, and other necessary items.

As part of the event, the project also introduced an additional benefit package for all participating vendors, offering access to Manulife’s group personal accident insurance valued at 1 million riel for one year—completely free of charge.
