Synopsis: The chatbot is designed to simplify for users to obtain guidance on tax matters, reducing reliance on in-person consultations and manual responses.
The General Department of Taxation (GDT) on Saturday introduced a new tax chatbot named ‘Beauramei’, initially capable of answering questions in the Khmer language, with gradual updates planned to enhance taxpayer services and access to tax information.
According to a GDT press release, the rollout of the ‘GDT Chatbot called – Beauramei’ aligned with the Royal Government’s stance in modernising public service delivery, particularly in enhancing access to tax-related information for taxpayers and the general public.
By leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), the chatbot was designed to simplify for users to obtain guidance on tax matters, reducing reliance on in-person consultations and manual responses.
The launch of Beauramei comes as the Royal Government continues efforts to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation, a key pillar for sustaining economic growth, funding public investment, and supporting fiscal stability.
Easier access to accurate tax information is expected to enhance voluntary tax compliance, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which continue to play a crucial role in driving employment and economic activity.
Based on GDT, Beauramei enabled taxpayers and the public to communicate with the tax authority through text-based conversations, allowing users to ask questions and receive responses related to taxation laws, legal regulations and relevant supporting documents.
