Germany Sustains Support in Advancing Cambodia’s Quality Infrastructure

Phnom Penh, 26 May 2025 — H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation received a delegation from Germany’s National Metrology Institute (PTB) to strengthen cooperation on Cambodia’s quality infrastructure, a foundation for industrial growth and international trade.

Minister Vanndy thanked PTB and the German federal government for their continued support since 2018, particularly in supporting the National Metrology Center (NMC).

He reaffirmed MISTI’s commitment to elevate metrology in Cambodia through lab accreditation, institutional reform, and innovative service delivery models to also reach rural areas. “We very much need these services as our factories grow and industrialization accelerates,” he said.

Representing PTB, Mr. Gidon Windecker commended Cambodia’s vision for technology and innovation and underscored Germany’s role as the largest bilateral donor to Cambodia’s quality infrastructure.

“Reliable and internationally recognized standards are essential for Cambodia’s economic development, especially as the country prepares for LDC graduation,” he stated.

Both sides agreed to pursue further milestones, including full international recognition of Cambodia’s measurement system and the development of a National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) Policy to support SMEs and deepen regional and global integration.
