Government spends $30 million per month on Social Assistance programs

 

The Royal Government of Cambodia spends more than  $30 million per month to implement social assistance programs, especially the development of strong, sustainable and inclusive social protection system for the benefit of all target groups.

Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance and Chairman of the National Council for Social Protection, said at the opening ceremony of “Social Protection Week” that in June 2020, the government launched the “Cash Transfer Program for Poor and Vulnerable Households during COVID-19”, a special social assistance program that is still being implemented today.

Dr Pornmoniroth added that the “Strategic Framework and Programs for Economic Recovery in the Context of Living with COVID-19 in a New Normal 2021-2023”, approved and put into use in December 2021 clearly defines the priorities for the development of social protection system.
