PM announces $100 million from the government to boost Cambodia’s agricultural sector

Dr. Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, announced that the Royal Government has prepared a budget of $100 million to help improve the agricultural sector for farmers in Cambodia.

This announcement was made by Prime Minister Hun Manet, during a meeting with 18,000 factory workers from 13 factories in Por Senchey district, Phnom Penh, this morning, August 29, 2023.

Dr. Hun Manet said: “We have a specific programme. We have prepared a budget of $100 million to intervene in agricultural products such as rice and vegetables. He said that agricultural products have fluctuated this year, but when the people are in trouble, the royal government will help.

The Prime Minister stated that the price of agricultural products is based on the world market and has never risen at the same time.

He added that the preparation of the budget would help prevent the fall in the price of agricultural products for the people, and when the agricultural products are good, the Royal Government must find a market for them to get an income. “Where it is difficult, we intervene, such as with the lack of irrigation, etc.” This is an additional confirmation from Dr. Hun Manet.

At the same time, Dr. Hun Manet said that in the policy of the Royal Government will deploy agricultural officials in all communes across the country with priority on agriculture.

“We have to deploy in the countryside because the people have their needs; they need help, so send agricultural officials to stay with them,” he said.
